Why should I put my business on the Internet?

The Internet is the ideal medium for businesses to reach a larger audience worldwide, and at a low cost. According to CyberAtlas, in 1999 more than 259 million users surf the Internet globally, and electronic commerce has reached $31.2 billion. According to Computer Industry Almanac, by the year 2002 the number of Internet surfers will increase to 490 million users, and according to Dataquest, electronic commerce will reach $380 billion.

Businesses can easily setup web sites to advertise their company and product information with the cost of a local phone call.  The web site presents the company literature online with company and product descriptions, company history and contact information.

Using the power of web, the information can be enhanced using audio and video that is a significant improvement over the traditional communications including brochures, and newspaper and magazine advertisements.  Furthermore, changes to the information is completed within minutes as opposed to weeks using traditional communications.  Best of all, customers can access the information 24 hours a day and 7 days a week-- Worldwide.

What is the Network Solutions organization?

Network Solutions was founded in 1979 a joint venture between the National Science Foundation, AT&T and Network Solutions, Inc.  AT&T handles the directory and databases of company names, while Network Solutions, Inc., handles the name registration process.

The database contains a listing of all companies and organizations on the Internet with their registered address. Similar to the postal mailing address, the company’s URL, i.e., http://www.yourname.com, is their Internet address.

The initial $70 fee is for having the name registered for two years. After two years, the fee is $35 per year to keep the name registered.
